Fire and Water Art

Fire and Water Art is an Artists' Showroom located at 219 W Main in Lowell Michigan.  With over 25 leading local artists we feature award winning paintings, sculpture, jewelry, photography, clay, ceramics and textiles.  Fire and Water Art is the creation of artist Kathleen Mooney.  It has grown from her need for studio space into the 80 x 20' artists' showroom of today.  In her search for a powerful venue for her own art she determined that artists need a space to market their own art - in their own way - with their own message.

Our showroom showcases the best in local talent with our artists managing their own display, art and communication.  Here you will find their NEWEST art, their website and contact information - all in an approachable, well lit, un-cluttered environment.

We have a custom framer "The Framing Artist" Deidre Wingelaar - who has over 20 years framing experience and an artist's eye for choosing the best framing options for your art or personal memories.

Kathleen Mooney - Owner, Fire and Water Art



Neolithic objects of power and ritual landscapes inspire my work.  My travels have taken me to the Atlantic coasts of Europe where the 5,000 year-old “remains” of prehistoric art are most concentrated.  The ritual landscapes of Kilmartin, Callanish, Orkney, Avebury and Stonehenge resonate with meaning. 

 Over time and miles, I have gathered a recurrent vocabulary of ancient symbols. The art I create uses abstracted boats, compasses, spirals and circles to carry the message of a journey – both a journey of personal pilgrimage and the universal and ancient journey of life.

  

Working in series I can fully explore themes of memory and separation influenced by my yearly pilgrimage to Ireland and the Atlantic coast of Europe.  My fascination with the Neolithic has led to studying art, abstraction, archeology, signs, symbols and symbolic art as a continuing "non-writing" communication form that has powerful impact in abstract art and our modern lives. 

  

My most recent projects have included Art Books, Art DVD's - featuring the music of Thom Jayne -  and a series of paintings surrounding sulfide mining which is endangering the Yellow Dog River near Marquette Michigan.
